Laszlo Major STEAM Director

Dr. Laszlo Major is the director of LUMA Centre of Southwestern Finland (regional centre of LUMA centre of Finland). The aim of the LUMA (STEAM) Centre is to inspire and motivate children into mathematics, science and technology through the latest methods and activities of science and technology education. Dr. Major received his PhD degree in Mathematics at the Tampere University of Technology. In 2010-2011, he was a visiting researcher at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. He has teaching experience on different levels of education ranging from elementary to university education. He has been teaching, among other courses, Data mining, Data analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Logic, Operations research, Coding theory, Formal languages, Graph theory, Information theory, Automata theory, Mathematical cryptology. Before joining the University of Turku in 2017, he was the acting head of the Department of Statistics, Eötvös Lóránd University, Hungary and a member of the Faculty Council (Eötvös Lóránd University, TaTK). His research interests lie in the field of Combinatorics but he has also been active in the popularization of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics among children. He is the columnist and frequently invited guest for the children’s television series “Matrica – Négyzetgyök” (Hungarian Public Television).
