The University of Turku permanent and visiting faculty at the Future Tech Lab in Windhoek can supervise doctoral studies, especially in Computer Science. The doctoral candidates will carry out research in RDI projects within Namibia or relating to southern Africa and our connections with the region. At the moment, the PhD topic needs to be discussed with the Head of the Lab, Prof Erkki Sutinen, by appointment. The research topics should be related to designing research-based, relevant tools and solutions to identified challenges in the Global South, ranging from those in formal or informal education to improving living conditions in rural areas to empowering minority languages and cultures.

The Finnish-Namibian Research Academy helps doctoral candidates that carry out their studies at the University of Namibia.

Please find more details of the MATTI doctoral programme at www.utu.fi/matti , and instructions of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at https://www.utu.fi/en/university/faculty-of-science-and-engineering/doctoral-training/how-to-apply

Research Seminars

The doctoral candidates and the research group meets during the University of Namibia semesters every second Wednesday 2pm-4pm for a research seminar in the Future Tech Lab.

The FTLab research seminar is an open, transdisciplinary meeting place for doctoral candidates, researchers and experts from industry, government and NGOs. The seminar invites the participants to share their work in progress with each other. The seminar encourages its participants to form new networks and linkages for co-authoring, joint RDI projects, and similar.

The contact person for the research seminar is Maria Ndapewa Ntindi (nntinda@unam.na).

See the events page for the next seminars.
