Plug-in campus promotes cross-cultural learning, innovation

The Future Tech Lab, a plug-in campus set up within the main campus of the University of Namibia (UNAM) in Windhoek by Finnish higher education institution the University of Turku (UTU) is not only helping to produce local software engineers but is at the forefront of student-led cross-cultural innovation through its remote linking of student collaborators in Namibia and Finland.

A Study Commissioned for Development Policy: Connecting Africa - Perspectives for Energy, Transport, Digitalisation and Research and Innovation

In 2020, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland commissioned a development policy related study on Africa’s connectivity. The authors of the current report are Ms. Eva Nilsson, PhD candidate at the Hanken School of Economics, Dr. Obert Hodzi at the University of Liverpool, Ms. Neema Komba, PhD candidate at the Hanken School of Economics, Professor Erkki Sutinen at the University of Turku, Dr. Mika Kautonen at Tampere University ,and Senior Researcher, Professor Liisa Laakso at the Nordic Africa Institute.

First Research Academy Seminars

The first two Research Academy seminars and workshops took place between 28th - 29th October at the UNAM main campus in Windhoek and  the same set was realized in Ongwediva  at UNAM JEDS campus 31st October -1st November. Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for the new Namibia Campus took place on the 5th November 2019 in the newly renovated FT-Lab facilities. Here are a few photos from that event:

Campus Renovation Stage 1

The first stage of renovation has been completed at our Namibia campus, and here are a few photos. This stage involved clearing the original space, installing new walls, carpets, staging and basic furniture. Stage 2 will be the installation of technological infrastructure and stage 3 will be the state-of-the-art remote presence studio.
